Symptoms of BPH

Uncomfortable. Disruptive. Sometimes embarrassing.

In men with BPH, the prostate squeezes the urethra, preventing urine from flowing properly. This causes symptoms such as a weak or interrupted urinary stream, delay in starting the urine stream, and a feeling that the bladder is not completely empty after urinating.

Typical signs of BPH include:

  • A frequent need to urinate
  • Waking at night to urinate
  • An urgent need to urinate immediately, sometimes with leaking or dribbling
  • Difficulty or delay starting the flow of urine
  • A weak urine stream
  • A urine stream that starts and stops
  • A feeling that the bladder is still not empty, even after urinating
