Is BPH related to prostate cancer?

NO, but take symptoms seriously.

No. BPH is not cancer, and men with BPH don't seem to be more likely to get prostate cancer.2 However, some of the symptoms of these two conditions are the same. And while there is no apparent link between the two, a person who has BPH may also have undiagnosed prostate cancer at the same time, or develop it in the future.2

Your doctor will perform tests to confirm that your urinary symptoms are due to BPH and not due to prostate cancer.

Remember:

  • BPH is not related to prostate cancer
  • Having BPH does not appear to increase the chances of getting prostate cancer
  • Some symptoms of prostate cancer and BPH are similar, so don’t wait to talk to your doctor about your symptoms
