Symptoms not bothering you?

You and your doctor may choose to watch and wait.

Most men who have uncomfortable symptoms from BPH will need treatment at some point.2 However, if symptoms are mild or not very bothersome, you and your doctor may choose to just watch and wait. During this time, your doctor will still need to monitor your condition on a regular basis. When symptoms worsen to the point that they interfere with your life, or BPH causes health problems (such as urinary tract infections), your doctor may recommend treatment. 2 If you choose to watch and wait, you’ll still need regular check-ups to detect any problems early on. Even if you have few symptoms of BPH, you’re still vulnerable to urinary tract infections. And many conditions can suddenly make you unable to urinate at all, like taking a simple over-the-counter cold or allergy medicine, drinking too much alcohol, being out in the cold, or being immobile for a long time.2 The earlier you begin medical care for your enlarged prostate, the lower your risk of developing more serious complications.
